Referring to the stranded passengers, Matteoli said on the information he had received, it seemed that the difficult situation would be resolved quickly with the least possible discomfort to travellers. Alitalia buyers signed an agreement on 12 December concluding the takeover of the insolvent carrier’s main assets, paving the way for the sale of a stake to Air France-KLM Group or the German carrier Lufthansa. CAI’s top executives have said they hope to propose their choice of a foreign partner to the consortium’s board by the end of the year in order to have a deal in place when the airline is formally relaunched on 13 January.
