Da Vinci’s ‘Last Supper’ goes online in HD (GMA News)- Topic: leonardo da vinci, leonardo da vinci paintings

Besides allowing experts and art-lovers to study the masterpiece from home, Artioli said the project provides an historical document of how the painting appears in 2007, which will be valuable to future generations of art historians. The work, in Milan's Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, was restored in a painstaking effort that wrapped up in 1999 - a project aimed at reversing half a millennium of damage to the famed artwork. Leonard painted the ''Last Supper'' dry, so the painting did not cleave to the surface in the fresco style, meaning it is more delicate and subject to wear. The Philippines failed to improve on its IT infrastructure readiness according to a global report that showed the country still at the 85th position for the second straight year.

(leonardo da vinci, leonardo da vinci paintings) Study finds that Last Supper food has been supersized over the years (The Post-Standard)

Researchers found that the size of the food depicted in paintings of the Last Supper has grown over the years. The food in famous paintings of the meal has grown by biblical proportions over the last millennium, researchers report in a medical journal today. Using a computer, they compared the size of the food to the size of the heads in 52 paintings of Jesus Christ and his disciples at their final meal before his death. The size of the main dish grew 69 percent; the size of the plate, 66 percent, and the bread, 23 percent, between the years 1000 and 2000. I guess you could say that it is the equivalent to an Ohio State or a Penn State but without the state government funding (which is there on the Ag and Vet school side of the campus). For one, Professor Wansink is in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell - one of the STATUTORY COLLEGES at Cornell.

Topic: leonardo da vinci, leonardo da vinci paintings - Leonardo Da Vinci used painting ‘trick’ to change Mona Lisa’s expression (New Kerala)

Austrian neurologists suggest Da Vinci was proficient at a technique called “sfumato”, in which layers of paint are added on top of each another to create subtle changes in shading. In his masterpiece the Mona Lisa, when the eyes are stared at, a smile seems to appear on her lips. Professor Florian Hutzler, a psychology expert at the Centre for Neurocognitive Research in Salzburg, insists that a direct view of the painting makes visible soft layers of shading around the mouth. However, in a peripheral vision, the same brush strokes merge to give the impression of a subtle smile. When you look directly on the mouth, you see the fine details, the smile disappears and there is only a neutral expression,” the Telegraph quoted Hutzler, as saying. Professor Stephen Porter, a psychology expert at the University of British Columbia, said the study gives an idea on how people perceive facial expressions.

(leonardo da vinci, leonardo da vinci paintings) Auction Gallery of the Palm Beaches MONDAY March 22nd, 2010 @ 6pm 1609 S. Dixie Highway, W. Palm Beach, FL 33401 (Antiques and the Arts)

The nation’s leading newspaper and source of information on antiques and the arts. Rare and Important Painting circa 1510-15 from the hand of a pupil of Leonardo as researched by Prof. Carlo Pedretti from The Armand Hammer Center for Leonardo Studies, University of California, Los Angeles for the Important Exhibition ? On the back of the panel are fragmentary wax seals and a strip of paper with an 18th century ink inscription ? Because of the great dexterity involved, this drawing technique applied to the painting betrays the hand of a master, or at least of exceptionally gifted pupil such as Melzi or Cesare del Sesto.
