leonardo da vinci, leonardo da vinci paintings - An addiction to be proud of (Wilton Bulletin)

A week ago, early on a Wednesday morning, a 63-year-old woman walked from her home in Norwalk, approached the Metro-North grade crossing at Commerce Street, lay down on the tracks and was killed by the oncoming train. Since that fateful day when I went crazy and tossed the TV out on the front lawn and denied my daughters their constitutionally guaranteed right to mindless distractions and foolishness like Jerry Springer and MTV, our lives took a turn for the better â” well, at least mine did. The day after I became a grandmother for the first time, I was so full of joy and enthusiasm when I arrived for work at the Trumbull Times editorial office that the editor asked me to write a column about my experience. Early Monday morning, my boss said he had a top-secret assignment for me, and that afternoon, I was flying to the land of my ancestors, aka Italy, where I walked the streets of Milan in search of my roots . A friend of a friend of a friend â” or something like that â” had a relative with lots of money, so much money he was ranked as one of the top 500 executives in the world, or maybe it was one of the top 500 executives in South Jersey.

Lasting legacies of the Olympics (Toronto Sun)(leonardo da vinci, leonardo da vinci paintings)

The Mechanics of Man exposition is free to visitors throughout the 17 days of the Games, and is scheduled to stay on until the end of May. The exposition consists of 240 anatomical drawings of the anatomy of arms, legs and everything in between which experts say were centuries ahead of their time. Post-Olympic visitors have a chance to view it unobstructed — the cauldron will remain as a permanent landmark after the Games as part of a park commemorating Jack Poole, former chair of the organizing committee who died in October. And finally, while currently closed to the public, the Olympic and Paralympic Village at Vancouver’s False Creek has caused some buzz during the Games for being tagged the greenest, most energy efficient and sustainable neighbourhood in the world. On Tuesday Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson announced the buildings in which the athletes are staying in Vancouver had received LEED Platinum certification — the highest of green standards in the world. The village — located on the edge of False Creek, not far from Granville Island — has been built as a functional community, including restaurants, a pub, a bakery and a new seawall for strolling and running.

Expo Pavilions showcase diversity (2) (People’s Daily)- About: leonardo da vinci, leonardo da vinci paintings

The structure was inspired by the traditional game of pick-up sticks, known as "Shanghai" in Italy, in which children drop a group of sticks on the ground and try to remove one stick at a time without disturbing the others. The different sections of the building create geometrical and visual variety symbolizing the color, rich traditions and regional customs of Italian culture. Considered by many as the birthplace of the Renaissance and known as a dynamic country of fashion and cutting-edge technology, the Italian pavilion will showcase an extensive collection of classic art and designer luxury goods. The latest model Ferrari and Ducati will debut at the pavilion and visitors will be able to enjoy fashion shows featuring Armani, Prada and Versace.
