Topic: leonardo da vinci, leonardo da vinci paintings - Amazing: Mona Lisa Recreated with Cups of Coffee (VIDEO) (The Inquisitr)

The Rocks Aroma Festival in Sydney, Australia, is a celebration for people who love anything to do with coffee, chocolate, tea, spices, etc. The 20 foot high by 13 foot wide replica of the painting was created with 3,604 cups of coffee and 564 pints of milk. Each cup of coffee was used as one pixel in the image and had varying amounts of milk in it to give it a different shade, from white to black and it took 8 people 3 hours to create it. The festival attracted more than 130,000 in one day. See the video below of the Mona Lisa being created with cups of coffee. The Inquisitr delivers a daily mix of tech, pop and fun stories from around the world.

Woman throws cup at Mona Lisa (National Post)(leonardo da vinci, leonardo da vinci paintings)

A Russian woman frustrated at failing to obtain French nationality hurled a ceramic cup at the Mona Lisa but did not damage Leonardo da Vinci’s famed portrait, a spokesman for the Louvre Museum said on Tuesday. The Mona Lisa, which is protected by a bullet-proof screen, is one of the most prized works in the Louvre and was seen by some 8. The woman had hidden the ceramic cup in a bag and later told police she had been upset because she had not been granted French nationality. In 2007, a man broke into the Musee D’Orsay in Paris and punched and damaged a painting by the French impressionist Claude Monet. In 2008 a Cambodian woman was made to do community service after kissing a painting by American artist Cy Twombly at a gallery in southern France, leaving lipstick on the canvas.

Da Vinci’s Mechanical Lion Brought To Life After 500 Years [Robots] (Gizmodo)(leonardo da vinci, leonardo da vinci paintings)

Originally designed to entertain the King of France, the robot has been recreated as part of an exhibit at the Chateau du Clos Luce in France—Leonardo’s last residence. Using those drawings as well as the written descriptions of the lion, master maker of automatons Renato Boaretto recreated the animal for the Chateau du Clos Luce, where it can be seen as part of a Da Vinci exhibition that lasts until January 31, 2010. Then, it takes about 10 steps forward, shakes its head from side to side, opens and closes its jaws and wags its tail up and down. A secret mechanism is built into its mane so that when a particular spot is stroked, a trapdoor swings open on the lion’s flank and several fleur de lys pop out. Described in the Reuters article as “the George Lucas of his time” Leonardo was famed for winning over crowds with mechanical “special effects” (although, there is no evidence to suggest that he tinkered too much with his past successes and ended up disappointing his fans).
