A lens in a viewing tunnel isolates this action and inverts it to appear logically upright so that viewers find a luminous little house tumbling in circles like the twister scene from The Wizard of Oz . In the end, Spangler and the majority of exhibiting artists considered the camera obscura as a departure point.

For his exhibition at The Aldrich, Tufte has reconstructed the topography of the Museumâs Sculpture Garden to refine the relationships among the pieces, the sunâs position, and the local horizon. Based on a two-year study of the behavior of an actual American teenage girl, the animation is part of a larger project called The Girl Studies that dissects the desires and social anxieties of our era. The second and third scenes, set in a bedroom and bathroom, open the door to the interior loneliness and isolation of the two main characters, as viewers observe them surfing TV channels and radio stations, snacking, posing in front of a full length mirror, and crying, as a digital clock marks the passage of time. This exhibition brings together 12 works, from 1972 to the present, that not only explore the camera as both sculptural and functional object, but, perhaps more importantly, chart the course that photography and the globalization of precision manufacturing has taken over the past century. Sachsâs cameras turn the tables on the usual artistic photographic process, where the image made with the camera is the âartâ and the camera itself is merely a tool.
