A renewable take on an old design (The Bulletin)- leonardo da vinci, leonardo da vinci paintings

Built around a base of a 6-foot-wide, metal livestock feed tub, the tank will be powered by one of the team members riding a mountain bike hidden inside. The students are taking part in the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry’s first Da Vinci Challenge, a statewide contest in which 16 teams will show off their modern versions of a da Vinci design. The Sisters team will be one of eight youth teams competing on April 4 for the chance to throw a party for 100 friends at the Portland museum. A rainbow paint design that would have been the envy of most NASCAR teams was done away with in favor of a black-and-white color scheme, a reference to the cows that eat out of the livestock tubs. The team put the mountain bike into an oval hole cut out of the bottom and, using four strings, tied knots in an attempt to hold up the bike.

(leonardo da vinci, leonardo da vinci paintings) Where’s Wally? 103 famous faces drive net craze (The West Australian)

Message boards have erupted with contests to identify all those featured, who range from instantly recognisable figures like Gandhi to some more obscure figures such as Liu Xiang, the Chinese hurdler who limped out of the Beijing Olympics in the summer. While the figures in Raphael’s painting were all ancient philosophers, there appears little to connect the characters in the recent work which finds room for historical greats like Napoleon as well as Bill Gates, the bespectacled face of modern success. And the inclusion of Juan Antonio Samaranch, the career bureaucrat and former International Olympic Committee chairman would be inexplicable unless the artist came from China, where Mr Samaranch is well-known as the man who awarded Beijing the 2008 Games. Another clue comes from the three undistinguished men in contemporary dress who survey the scene from behind a wall at the top right of the picture.
