Amir Khan as a director deals with an untold story of a child who being special in his own way is rendered misfit in this world of hustle and bustle. The scene in which Ram (Amir Khan) drawing the illustration of the great personalities like Albert Einstein and Leonardo-da-Vinci and the actor like Abhishek Bachan narrates their dyslexic childhood is a parable for the custodians of system of education that prevails, putting huge emphasis on academics and downplaying the creative fervor of children. There are some fine metaphors used in the film especially where Ishan bunks his school and finds people struggling hard, provides another insight into the busy and buzzing world which is alien to a child’s scheme of things. This star twinkles and catches your attention and amazement, tugging at your heart throughout its two-and-a-half-hour plus playing time, bringing the shades of a child’s imagination in blazing colour onto the screen canvas, and making us realize that truly every child is special, all we have to do is help them attain their true potential. The title song Taare Zameen Par is poetic, with no line being repeated in its sea of similes, and Bum Bum Bole is joyful with Aamir swinging with the kids to the catchy rhythm with Shiamak Davar’s inventive choreography; Kholo Kholo is a true eye-opener, inspiring and uplifting in mood and content, making a fine album that will keep shining in music stores for a long time. read more

Teachers should not assume that their pupils have a “mum and dad” under guidance aimed at tackling anti-gay bullying in schools. When discussing marriage with secondary pupils, teachers should also educate pupils about civil partnerships and gay adoption rights. The guidance - produced for the Government by gay rights group Stonewall - will be formally launched today by Schools Secretary Ed Balls. Examples include “those trainers are so gay”, “that pencil case is so gay” or “you’re such a gay boy”. Next month is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender History Month, where pupils learn about apparently gay figures from history including Leonardo da Vinci, Oscar Wilde and James Dean. read more

WASHINGTON (AP) — A bankruptcy judge has ordered a Manhattan art gallery owner to turn over more than 200 pieces of artwork — including pieces by Leonardo da Vinci and Jackson Pollock — until it’s determined who actually owns them. Salander must allow Joseph Sarachek, the consultant operating Salander-O’Reilly Galleries LLC’s bankruptcy estate, to take 231 pieces of art that Sarachek thinks may belong to the gallery. Sarachek is conducting an inventory of the Manhattan art gallery’s assets amid allegations that Salander and the gallery traded and sold artwork they didn’t own to pay off debts. However, he and his wife — who are also under Chapter 11 protection — are planning to sell their Manhattan townhouse and home in Millbrook, New York. read more
