In that year also, no doubt, was painted the early and, as might be expected, unfinished “St. Jerome in the Desert,” now in the Vatican, the under-painting being in umber and _terraverte_. Its authenticity is vouched for not only by the internal evidence of the picture itself, but also by the similarity of treatment seen in a drawing in the Royal Library at Windsor. Cardinal Fesch, a princely collector in Rome in the early part of the nineteenth century, found part of the picture–the torso–being used as a box-cover in a shop in Rome. He long afterwards discovered in a shoemaker’s shop a panel of the head which belonged to the torso. The jointed panel was eventually purchased by Pope Pius IX., and added to the Vatican Collection.
He was given his own private residence and studio, in which he taught, and continued work on his studies, drawings, and sketches.
After an Italian researcher discovered hidden images on Leonardo da Vinci's painting "The Last Supper", now an illustration specialist developed a procedure so that everybody can make this discovery for himself. Soon the web was filled with requests of people to see the end result of Pesci's research, the treated image showing its secret. Now the interesting thing is that everybody can repeat this procedure, it just needs an image of the painting - usually found easily on the web - and an image manipulation program like Gimp. If the image was opened in the image manipulation program, a copy of the painting must be put on a second Layer. If someone does not like to follow the whole procedure but just wants to see the image, the important part of the end result can be seen on our homepage www. As a graphic specialist the small Swiss company Ecliptic makes any kind of illustrations and image manipulations, from hand painting, drawing, photography, vector application drawings to 3d modeling and rendering since 20 years. read more

The subject of Leonardo da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa” suffered from a metabolic condition that made her blood fatty, a Belgian blood expert said. Jan Dequeker — professor emeritus at Catholic University at Leuven in Belgium and rheumatology lecturer at Italy’s University of Lovinio — said the woman suffered from hyperlipemia, a condition caused by overeating and lack of exercise, the Italian news agency ANSA reported Wednesday. Dequeker, an art buff, said he found evidence of the disease when he examined “Mona Lisa,” whose countenance has bewitched at lovers for centuries. Dequeker said the typical age for the disease’s onset in women — 30-to-35 — is the span when experts believed the model posed. One group of medical researchers said the model’s mouth is closed because she was undergoing mercury treatment for syphilis, turning her teeth black.
